MALAMULELE CITY MALL SET TO TAKE SHAPE AS CONSTRUCTION PLANS ARE UNVEILED
MALAMULELE – Excitement is growing in Malamulele following the official presentation of plans for the long-awaited Malamulele City Mall by the Masingita Group of Companies.
The company’s delegation, led by CEO Timothy Phiri and Lesley Bumba Nkuna, met with local stakeholders at Malamulele Community Hall on Wednesday to outline the development plans.
Preparatory work, including site clearing, fencing and the arrival of graders, is expected to begin in October 2026, with major construction planned to start in January 2027 and completion targeted for early 2028.
The proposed double-storey development is expected to include shops, a five-star hotel and conference facilities, an upgraded Malamulele Taxi Rank, entertainment facilities and a new park.
The developer has also called on the Collins Chabane Local Municipality to relocate hawkers operating near the site, with a deadline of 14 October 2026 mentioned during the meeting.
According to the company, the project could create more than 2,350 job opportunities, including approximately 1,850 permanent positions.
“We are going to make sure that Malamulele becomes more like a city with such a big business facility,” said Phiri.
The mall is planned for the former Malamulele Secondary School site, which was vacated following the school’s relocation.
If implemented as presented, the development would mark a significant new commercial investment in Malamulele.
